ZINE NAME THREAD
OKAAAAAAY.
Quick survey taken earlier today:
24 FPS - i i i i i i i i i i i
Stoic - i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
Tart - i i i i i i
Loop - i i i
Neon - i i i i i i i i
Tele - i i i
This surprised me a tad. Stoic sounds lofty and slightly 'lit mag' to me. Don't dig it. I was surprised I even suggested it. Spur of the moment.
24 FPS - another surprise for me. Despite the metaphor I was thinking of, it still seems to specific, and so I'll withdraw the entry. Plus, it can be mistaken for a cheap video game mag.
Loop - makes me think of Monopoly Jr. (purchasing the loop de loop property), the Youth Fair, and repetitiveness/monotony.
Neon - coming in at a strong third, I was surprised by the voter demographics for it (mostly males). Nevertheless, I don't dig it anymore...it's as faux-hip as Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (don't bother going unless you're in the mood to be mushy with Krista).
I'm stuck between Tele and Tart. Tart looks a bit strange but it gets to me for whatever reason. Tele I dig, though we'd have to be careful about how we use that prefix when naming other things because it may become a bit corny.
I also kind of like 'Matte' and 'Veneer'. Like any of those at all? Just throwing out new options...
In the end, I won't be happy with anything until we have the page set up. Let me know...

Re: ZINE NAME THREAD
Krista thinks that Tart sounds like a chick's magazine... and now that she says that, I can't help but think of it that way too. I liked it at first though.
To me, Tele and Matte are the best ones, though Matte sounds like a guy's name and that wouldn't be good as the thing expands and grows. I think you're right: Tele could be dangerous if we aren't careful with how we use it. But otherwise, I think that's the strongest one so far.
I post any new ideas I have in the meantime.

Re: ZINE NAME THREAD
yeah...tart gives off that vibe...fuck whoever created the damn candy...
the only problem i see with tele is that people i've surveyed tend to confuse it for an electronics magazine or something to do with communication systems, i.e., cell phones...i didn't see it until people started asking me (almost half of the people i asked, which i think was close to fifty)

Re: ZINE NAME THREAD
I thought of that last night. It does sound a little too "techy."
Damn Alexander Bell.

any more ideas? does krista have any ideas?
i'm thinking of having people pull out letters/words out of hat and see if something interesting pops up...dadaist, a la duchamp and tzara...and burroughs to a certain extent...

Re: ZINE NAME THREAD

Re: ZINE NAME THREAD
well, the 'dada' technique i mentioned above never went through, but it inspired me to come up with two more ideas...
1. swarm (after 'swarm theory' or 'swarm intelligence' - sort of organized chaos, as personified in ant colonies and different robotic systems)
2. chao (discordianist religious term - the recently coined singular or 'chaos'...the fact that 'chaos' is the 'order' of nature and should be revered as such...like organized randomness)
'automat' seems to fit right in with this concept...plus, i have a personal attachment, seeing as i went to one in amsterdam...i dig it
the semantic (though non-conceptual, which is irrelevant on an intuitive psychological level) semblance between automat and automatism (much like dali's 'paranoid hallucinatory psychosis' or whatever other crazy name he decided to use) is also a plus...
at any rate, i think we need this name ASAP...tonight - tomorrow morning the latest
i'm on amphetamine-mode for work because i'm trying to stay out of the hospital...tyrone sent me yesterday but i decided against it...instead, i am self-medicating through a boatload of pills and constant work...
i want to get through this name so we can start sorting out column concepts, etc.
and some other ideas i want to discuss
let me know
